We recently had the opportunity to visit EPFL’s M2C Center, an advanced manufacturing center where Bruno Studach and his team are driving innovation in space-ready manufacturing technologies.

The Center brings together world-class laboratories, each contributing with its unique expertise:

– the LAFT Lab, which masters multi-material 3D printing
– Galatea Lab, a pioneer in free-form laser manufacturing
– the LMTM Lab, which pushes back the limits of metal alloys
– ALCHEMY Lab, revolutionizing light-based additive manufacturing
– Not to mention collaborations with LMTS, LAMD, LAI and many others!

Main manufacturing capabilities :
– State-of-the-art multi-material 3D printer capable of processing up to 8 materials simultaneously
– Femtosecond laser systems for high-precision 3D laser processing
– State-of-the-art metal powder processing and characterization equipment
– Innovative light-based 3D printing systems with micron-level precision

Through the EPFL Space Center and the Space Innovation network partnerships, these cutting-edge capabilities are being harnessed for next-generation space applications. From lightweight satellite structures to advanced propulsion components, together we are helping to shape the future of space manufacturing in Switzerland.
